The Anne Arundel South County Democratic Club is an activist and social group based in the southern portion of Anne Arundel County, Maryland. Our group is dedicated to advancing progressive policy issues and electing qualified Democratic candidates to office in Maryland. January 19 - 12:00 noon - "We Can Control Climate Change" - a presentation by Bert Drake, senior scientist emeritus at SERC, on the threat of rising temperatures and increased drought on human capacity to provide the food needed by the projected increase in population. To be held at the Osaka Grille & Buffet in Crofton Shopping Center.

January 26 - Countywide Democratic Forum: Planning for the Future, sponsored by the Central Committee, from.6:30-9:00pm at Linthicum Walks, 2295 Davidsonville Road, Gambrills. Join other AA County Dems to help plan the future of the Democratic party in Anne Arundel County and Maryland. RSVP to email@example.com.

February 1 - Dan Nataf, Ph.D., professor of political science at AACC, will be our guest speaker and will discuss his most recent survey results and the 2016 election results.The meeting will be held at Pirates Cove in Galesville with meeting at 7pm and optional dinner (at your expense) at 6pm.
March 1 - Meeting at Pirates Cove with Club President George Donohue presenting a recap of recent voting trends in South County and a vision for planning for the 2018 elections. Meeting at 7pm with optional dinner (at your expense) at 6pm.
April 5 - Meeting at Pirates Cove with Nick Berry, Capital columnist, speaking on the issues of the day. Meeting at 7pm and optional dinner (at your expense) at 6pm.
May 3 - We welcome back Barry Rascovar, political writer, to provide a legislative round-up after the session concludes. Meeting at Pirates Cove at 7pm with optional dinner (at your expense) at 6pm.
June 7 - Meeting at Pirates Cove with a speaker on Affordable Housing issues in Anne Arundel County. Meeting at 7pm and optional dinner (at your expense) at 6pm.
Note: We will continue to collect donations
for SCAN and the requested items for this month are peanut butter, jelly and hearty soups. Please bring these to our meeting. Checks are also helpful. We will also collect dues at all meetings - $25/person for 2017.

The 2016 Campaign
Thank you to our volunteers and everyone who supported our Democratic ticket in Maryland. We elected Chris VanHollen to the Senate and re-elected our Democratic representatives across the state. We were proud to support Hillary Clinton and Tim Kaine for President/VP and glad Maryland stood strong for them.
"Making a Killing: Guns, Greed and the NRA" was shared with members at our January 2017 meeting. A powerful and heartbreaking examination of the issue of gun violence in America through the stories of affected families. A trailer for the movie can be viewed here. A new website, https://corrupt.af/ is tracking conflicts of interest facing the incoming administration and president-elect. The count started at 62 in December 2016 and is now at 75 --- and rising.

SOCODems & Climate Change

The SoCoDems have formed an Environment Committee to study issues and share pertinent information on the environment and climate change with the club. If you'd like to get involved, please click here to provide your contact info and indicate your interest in the Climate Change Committee.
