Happy 2021. I hope everyone had a safe and happy holiday season and that your new year is off to a great start. I wanted to begin the New Year by highlighting a few things that may be of interest to you.
First, I am pleased to report that all of the Democratic Clubs have joined forces to promote meetings and discussions of issues of interest to all democrats in Anne Arundel County. The plan is to host quarterly Zoom meetings for members of all the clubs. Our first combined Zoom meeting will be next Monday, January 11 at 7pm. We have invited several members of the General Assembly to give a preview of the upcoming legislative session. Invitees include: Rep. Mike Rogers; Rep. Joseline Pena-Melnyk; Rep. Heather Bagnall; and Senator Sarah Elfreth. Please join us and bring your questions. You can access the Zoom call by clicking on the following link:

Second, for those of you who could not join us for our Zoom call in December regarding the General Development Plan (GDP), the meeting was recorded and you can access it on YouTube using the following link:

Also, our club is in the process of finalizing public comments on the GDP. We will submit these for the record later this week. A series of regional hearings on the plan will follow. We will keep you apprised of these and hope you will attend.
Third, I want to thank all of those who auto-reviewed your membership for 2021. While Covid has made meeting in person impossible and made programming more difficult than usual, we continue to work to promote the Democratic Party in South County and to support our neighbors in need. Each month our club donates money to local food banks to feed those in need. Your dues payments make these contributions possible. If you have not joined/renewed your membership, please do so today. Just go to our website–www.southcountydemclub.org–and click on the join/renew button. Recognizing the impact of Covid, the Board has adopted a tiered membership structure. As always, our suggested dues amount is $40 per year. If for any reason, you cannot afford to join/renew your membership at this level, we now offer a basic membership at $20 per year. Finally, those who can and want to do more, you can join at the $80 level. Please join at whatever amount you deem appropriate. (No promises, but we hope in the near future to have some swag for those who join at the $40 and $80 levels!)

Finally, if you are willing to be a Democratic Club Ambassador/Precinct Captain, you will be deemed to be a member in good standing for 2021 and you will receive our snappy SoCo Dem Club polo shirt. We are coordinating this effort with the Central Committee. Training will occur later this month so if you are interested, please let me know asap and I’ll provide more info (and your polo shirt) as it becomes available.
